Showcase Smoothie is an award winning literature and music based project dedicated to promoting health, wellbeing and cultural unity. The project is divided into two halves, 'The Showcase Collective' - focused on creative writing and 'Smoothie' - focused on rapping, DJ-ing and music production.
Launched in 2008, Showcase Smoothie is particularly focused on young black men to recognise and address statistical inequalities within the mental health system, but open to men and women of all backgrounds, building cross cultural understanding and countering the misunderstanding that can sometimes surround mental health issues.
The Showcase Collective is the creative writing side of Showcase Smoothie. Weekly facilitation is currently led by poet and performer, Lydia Towsey - with a number of other professional writers and performers visiting on a project by project basis.
Legacy artefacts and achievements include a string of high quality publications, films and performances - that have seen members of the Collective tour their work, locally, regionally and nationally.
